About Waterville EMS
Founded in 1959 by Eldon Hawkins, Keith Marney and Ed Grande. Since that time Waterville has strived to maintain their volunteer service, to ensure all residents in Douglas County have the best emergency care available to them. Throughout the years we have had severe fluctuations in volunteerism, however, we still thrive to bring our citizens the best service possible. Today, Waterville Emergency Medical Service is still powered by volunteers, who are dedicated public servants, who proudly serve their community.

OUR RESPONSE AREA
Our district has a large geographical coverage area, coming in at approximately 445 square miles, which includes the towns of Withrow, Douglas and Waterville, Jack's Resort campground, Douglas Creek Recreational area and residents on Badger Mountain and Moses Coulee road. We provide emergency medical service for approximately 2,000 citizens, on average we respond to over 200 calls per year. Along with our primary 911 response, we also staff an ambulance at high school football games, we man a first aid tent during Waterville Days and the NCW Fair, which includes staffing an ambulance for the Big Bend Round Up. In addition to aid calls, we respond alongside DCFD #1 (Waterville Fire Department) to structure related fires. Ballard Ambulance Service, located in Wenatchee, WA, provides mutual aid and paramedic response as needed.
STAFFING
We are staffed solely by dedicated volunteers, who pull ‘on call’ shifts, which involves responding to the station from home or work. Though our EMTs and Paramedics volunteer their time and expertise, they go through the same rigorous training as providers at paid departments. During the week days, there's generally one crew on call however, most weekends and evenings, we're able to staff both ambulances. In the event that we are already out on a call, we work with Ballard Ambulance to have them respond for mutual aid.
